Unveiling the Mystery of God's Grace

Our journey today takes us through a path where baffling mysteries confront us. The more we seek to understand, the more elusive the understanding seems. This path, brethren, leads us to the unchartered territory of God's undeniable grace. A bewildering beauty lies in the layers underlying the sense of His grace. His grace has been, is, and will always be our salvation. And yet, is there a soul that can truly claim to comprehend the breadth and depth of it?

Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." Yet, the complexity of understanding His grace often leaves us bewildered. This is us - the children of God, attempting to unveil the mystery of His grace.

Firstly, what is grace? In simplest terms, grace is God's unmerited favour. It is kindness from God we don't deserve. There is no way we can earn it; grace is given freely. The story of God's grace can be told as a progression: from the Creation to the Incarnation to the Crucifixion to the Resurrection. It is the story of how much God loves us, cares for us, and is willing to sacrifice for us.

Throughout the Bible, the grace of God is clearly highlighted. In Genesis, Noah found favour (grace) in the Eyes of the Lord (Genesis 6:8). Titus 2:11 also reminds us, "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men." Similarly, 2 Peter 3:18 encourages us to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." Unarguably, His Grace explains the whole Gospel.

The nature and profound scope of God's grace is too broad and deep for us to fully comprehend, yet that never should stop our quest to understand it. With that goal, let us focus on three dimensions of God's grace that unravel the extent of its benevolence.

1. The Grace of Salvation

The greatest manifestation of God's Grace is Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind. The Savior's sacrificial death on the cross to save us from our sins is a profound testament of God's unparalleled grace. As Apostle Paul puts it in Ephesians 1:7, "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace".

2. Sustaining Grace

This refers to God's grace that sees us through every trial and tribulation. 2 Corinthians 12:9 demonstrates this perfectly: "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'" Sustaining grace doesn't prevent us from trials but sustains us within them and refines us.

3. Enabling Grace

God's grace empowers us to do His work that we are otherwise incapable of doing. As written in Hebrews 4:16, "Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Jesus's act of service on Earth aptly embodies the spirit of enabling grace.

All these facets of grace arise from God's profound love for us. His Grace has saved us, sustains us, and enables us to serve His divine purpose. Even when we falter and stray, His Grace never fades. As Romans 5:20 states, "Where sin increased, grace increased all the more." Beautifully enigmatic, isn't it?

God's Grace remains one of the most profound mysteries of faith. While our finite minds may struggle to fully unravel it, we can certainly revel in its bountiful goodness. His Grace isn't something we comprehend; it's something we receive with a humble and grateful heart. Unveiling this mystery doesn't mean understanding all there is to know about God's Grace; it means acknowledging its existence in our everyday lives and accepting it with open arms.

Indeed, it is not for us to fully comprehend His Grace; but to accept it gratefully. A mystery, by definition, is something not fully understood or that baffles or eludes the understanding. And such is the mystery of God's Grace - it consistently eludes our comprehension, yet it never ceases to save us, sustain us, and enable us to do His Will.

Let us end this journey with the enlightening words from John 1:16: "From his fullness, we have all received grace upon grace." Let us dwell upon these words, for the beauty of their truth unveils the mystery of His Grace, not through understanding but through experiencing. Let us immerse ourselves in the abundance of His Grace, seek it, receive it, live it, and share it. That is the ultimate unveiling of the mystery of God's Grace.
